News Synopsis

Electric scooters have become incredibly popular in India over the years, but recent incidents have finally put a stop to the sector. The electric scooter industry has had a dreadful few months, with multiple events such as scooters catching fire, quality control concerns, and more.

While rising gasoline prices have encouraged more people to switch to electric scooters, recent instances have had a negative impact on sales, with Ola and Hero Electric reporting a drop of up to 50% in May. In May, Hero Electric reported a significant drop in sales. Hero Electric sales fell from 6,578 units in April to 2,739 in May, a drop of more than 58 percent month on month.

In May, Ola Electric reported a drop of more than 30%. In May, the business sold 8,681 scooters, compared to 12,702 in April. Despite reporting a significant dip, the business continues to lead the electric scooter sector. Okinawa and Ampere both recorded a drop in May. In May, Okinawa recorded a 19.28 percent decline, while Ampere reported a 15.46 percent decline.
