News Synopsis

Electric vehicle startup Oben Electric has recorded a strong market response to its latest motorcycle, Rorr Evo, crossing 25,000 bookings within just 15 days of launch—signalling rising consumer interest in electric motorcycles in India.

Strong Early Demand Signals Growing EV Adoption

Oben Electric announced that its newly launched Rorr Evo electric motorcycle has surpassed 25,000 bookings within just two weeks of its debut. This rapid demand places the model among the fastest-growing electric motorcycles in India, a segment that is still emerging but steadily gaining traction.

The milestone reflects a broader shift in consumer preferences, as more Indian buyers begin to consider electric motorcycles as practical alternatives to traditional petrol-powered bikes. While electric scooters have dominated the EV two-wheeler market so far, motorcycles like the Rorr Evo are now beginning to carve out their own space.

Pricing Strategy and Delivery Timeline

To capitalise on early demand, Oben Electric has introduced a special introductory price of ₹99,999 (ex-showroom) for the first 10,000 customers. After this limited offer, the motorcycle will be available at its standard price of ₹1,24,999 (ex-showroom).

The company has already activated its online payment portal, allowing customers to confirm their bookings. Deliveries of the Rorr Evo are scheduled to commence in June 2026, marking the next crucial step in converting demand into actual sales.

Leadership Perspective on Market Readiness

Founder and CEO Madhumita Agrawal highlighted that the overwhelming response is not just a product success but also an indicator of changing consumer attitudes.

According to her, the booking numbers demonstrate that Indian riders are now ready to embrace electric motorcycles that offer a balance of performance, practicality, and reliability. She also emphasised that the electric motorcycle category could lead the next phase of EV growth in India, with Oben Electric well-positioned to meet rising demand.

Expanding Retail and Service Network

Oben Electric has been actively strengthening its retail presence to support its growth plans. Currently, the company operates over 150 showrooms and service centres across more than 100 cities in 18 states.

Looking ahead, it plans to add 200 additional exclusive showrooms by the end of FY2027. This expansion will significantly increase its reach, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities where EV adoption is picking up pace.

The company’s after-sales service division, Oben Care, has reported a customer satisfaction score of 91%. This focus on service quality is crucial in building long-term trust among EV buyers, particularly in a market where reliability concerns still exist.

Performance and Powertrain Capabilities

The Rorr Evo is equipped with a proprietary IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) delivering a peak power output of 9 kW. It produces an impressive 250 Nm of wheel torque, enabling the motorcycle to accelerate from 0 to 40 km/h in just three seconds.

The bike has a top speed of 110 km/h, making it suitable for both city commuting and occasional highway use. Additionally, the motor comes with an IP68 rating, ensuring protection against dust and water.

Oben Electric claims that the motor is 40% more compact than its predecessor while delivering 20% higher performance, reflecting advancements in its in-house engineering capabilities.

Battery Technology and Charging Efficiency

The Rorr Evo is powered by a 3.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering an IDC-certified range of 180 km on a single charge. This makes it a practical option for daily commuting needs.

One of the key highlights is its fast-charging capability, which allows the battery to charge from 0 to 80% in just 90 minutes. The company also provides an eight-year warranty on the battery, addressing one of the major concerns associated with electric vehicles—battery longevity.

LFP battery chemistry is known for its thermal stability and longer lifecycle compared to conventional NMC batteries. Although it typically has lower energy density, its safety and durability advantages make it increasingly popular in the EV industry.

Smart Features and Connected Technology

Beyond performance, the Rorr Evo offers a range of smart and connected features aimed at enhancing the riding experience. It includes a 5-inch colour TFT display, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and turn-by-turn navigation.

The motorcycle is also equipped with advanced features such as geo-fencing, remote immobilisation, and fall detection with an emergency SOS function. These capabilities are powered by Oben’s proprietary connected platform, ARGUS.

Additionally, the SmartIQ system uses artificial intelligence to optimise ride efficiency, potentially increasing range by up to 15% depending on riding conditions.

Practical Design for Everyday Use

Oben Electric has focused on making the Rorr Evo suitable for everyday usage. The motorcycle features what the company claims is the longest seat in its segment, ensuring comfort for both rider and pillion.

It also offers 10 litres of under-seat storage, a relatively uncommon feature in motorcycles. This practical addition makes it easier for users to carry essentials, enhancing its appeal as a daily commuter vehicle.

Manufacturing and Vertical Integration Advantage

One of Oben Electric’s key differentiators is its vertically integrated manufacturing approach. The company produces critical components—including batteries, motors, vehicle control units, and chargers—in-house at its Bengaluru facility.

Spread across 3.5 acres, the plant has an annual production capacity of up to one lakh motorcycles. This level of integration is relatively rare among Indian EV startups, many of which rely on third-party suppliers.

By controlling its supply chain, Oben Electric aims to maintain better quality standards, reduce costs, and improve production efficiency.

Company Background and Industry Context

Founded in August 2020, Oben Electric has quickly established itself as a notable player in India’s EV ecosystem. The company holds over 25 patents, reflecting its focus on innovation and technological development.

India remains the world’s largest motorcycle market by volume, with millions of units sold annually. However, electric motorcycles still represent a small portion of this market.

While electric scooters have led the adoption curve, manufacturers are now increasingly targeting the motorcycle segment. Traditional players like Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj, and Royal Enfield continue to dominate the internal combustion engine (ICE) category, but the shift toward electrification is gradually gaining momentum.

Conclusion: A Promising Step for Electric Motorcycles

The strong booking numbers for the Rorr Evo highlight a turning point for electric motorcycles in India. Oben Electric’s success indicates that consumers are becoming more open to adopting EVs that combine performance, affordability, and practicality.

As infrastructure improves and awareness grows, the electric motorcycle segment is expected to expand further. For Oben Electric, the challenge now lies in meeting delivery timelines, maintaining quality, and sustaining momentum in an increasingly competitive EV market.
