News Synopsis

Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Corporation has officially begun deliveries of its new compact MPV, the Nissan Gravite, in India. Priced from ₹5.65 lakh (ex-showroom), the Gravite enters the affordable multi-purpose vehicle segment and is positioned below the four-metre category to appeal to budget-focused family buyers. The new MPV shares its platform with the Renault Triber but carries Nissan’s own design language and branding. With a practical seven-seat layout, modern connectivity features, and efficient petrol powertrain, the Gravite aims to strengthen Nissan’s presence in India’s competitive entry-level MPV market.

Nissan Gravite MPV Deliveries Begin Across India

Nissan has started nationwide deliveries of the new Gravite MPV after dispatching the first batch of vehicles to dealerships across the country. The model marks Nissan’s latest attempt to expand its lineup in India by targeting families looking for a spacious yet affordable vehicle.

The Gravite is built on the same platform as the Renault Triber but introduces a distinctive exterior design, updated interior styling, and Nissan-specific branding. By positioning the vehicle below the four-metre mark, Nissan also benefits from India’s tax advantages for compact cars, allowing it to maintain a competitive starting price.

With the launch of the Gravite, Nissan aims to attract first-time car buyers and customers upgrading from hatchbacks who require additional seating and practicality without significantly increasing their budget.

Exterior Design and Styling

The exterior of the Nissan Gravite reflects the brand’s signature styling elements while incorporating several new visual details that give the MPV a unique identity.

At the front, the vehicle features Nissan’s well-known V-Motion grille, which has become a hallmark of the brand’s global design language. The grille is complemented by sleek headlamps equipped with integrated daytime running lights, enhancing the vehicle’s modern appearance.

The bonnet prominently displays the “Gravite” lettering, adding a bold visual element to the front profile. The bumper includes silver accents and a sculpted design that contributes to a slightly rugged character. A faux skid plate further emphasizes the SUV-inspired styling cues.

From the side, the MPV is fitted with 15-inch alloy wheels and roof rails, which add to its practicality and visual appeal. The design maintains a compact yet balanced profile suitable for urban driving.

At the rear, the Gravite features sharply styled tail lamps connected by a chrome strip that stretches across the tailgate. The Nissan badge is placed at the center, while the Gravite name is integrated within the tail lamp cluster. Additional silver detailing on the rear bumper mirrors the styling elements seen at the front.

Customers can choose from five exterior colour options, including Forest Green, Onyx Black, Blade Silver, Metallic Grey, and Storm White.

Cabin Layout and Interior Features

Inside the cabin, the Nissan Gravite focuses on practicality and comfort with a seven-seat configuration, making it suitable for large families and long journeys.

The interior design adopts a dual-tone black and white theme, which gives the cabin a brighter and more premium feel compared to typical entry-level MPVs. Suede inserts and distinctive stitching patterns add a touch of sophistication to the otherwise functional interior layout.

The driver’s area includes a newly designed steering wheel and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, providing essential driving information in a clear and modern format.

At the centre of the dashboard, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen handles entertainment and connectivity functions. The system supports modern smartphone connectivity features, allowing users to access navigation, music, and communication services easily.

Overall, the interior layout balances convenience and practicality while offering sufficient technology for everyday use.

Engine, Performance and Fuel Efficiency

Powering the Nissan Gravite is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 71 horsepower and 96 Nm of torque.

This engine is shared with the Renault Triber but has been tuned to suit Nissan’s driving characteristics. The powertrain focuses primarily on fuel efficiency and affordability, making it well-suited for urban commuting and family usage.

Buyers can choose between two transmission options:

  • 5-speed manual gearbox

  • Automated Manual Transmission (AMT)

In terms of fuel economy, the Gravite delivers competitive efficiency figures within its segment. The manual version offers 19.3 kmpl, while the AMT variant delivers a slightly higher 19.6 kmpl.

Nissan has also announced plans to introduce a CNG variant of the Gravite in the near future. This option is expected to attract customers seeking lower running costs, particularly in cities where CNG infrastructure is widely available.

Nissan’s Strategy for the Compact MPV Segment

The launch of the Gravite reflects Nissan’s strategy to strengthen its position in India’s mass-market segment. Compact MPVs continue to be popular among Indian buyers due to their versatility, seating capacity, and relatively affordable pricing.

By offering a seven-seater layout within a sub-four-metre footprint, the Gravite provides a combination of practicality and efficiency that appeals to both urban families and fleet buyers.

With competitive pricing, modern styling, and an economical powertrain, the Nissan Gravite is expected to compete strongly in the entry-level MPV segment.
