News Synopsis

The Netherlands is now India's fourth most popular export destination. The Netherlands' Rotterdam Port is helping to promote Indian trade in Europe, and the country is proving to be New Delhi's export gateway to the continent. The Netherlands envoy to India Marten van den Berg told that Make in India may help Dutch companies invest in India, citing the relationship between Dutch shipbuilder Royal IHC and Cochin Shipyard Limited as an example.

The Netherlands has long had a relatively open economy with excellent logistics. Our harbour, Rotterdam, is Europe's largest and most efficient. As a result, not only do Indian exports to the Netherlands pass through the Netherlands, but so do many Indian exports to Germany, France, and Belgium. India is performing exceptionally well in terms of trade, with exports reaching new highs in 2022.

Fuel was a significant component of Indian exports. As a major port for fuel imports, Rotterdam was a natural export destination for Indian fuel exports to the EU. However, the rise was aided by a high level of commodity exports. The Netherlands is a gateway to Europe and thus an important destination for commodity exports to Europe, including Indian goods, due to its excellent hinterland linkages.
