News Synopsis

The Goodbye movie, starring Amitabh Bachchan, will premiere on the American streaming platform Netflix on December 2. Early in October, the movie was released in theatres, collecting Rs. 6.38 crore.

In the September quarter, Netflix added nearly 2.4 million global subscribers, significantly more than its own estimate of 1 million. But it's little compared to the 4.4 million it added in the same quarter last year. Only in the Asia-Pacific region did Netflix add 1.43 million new subscribers who were willing to pay.

Without taking into account foreign exchange, its income increased by 19% (from $834 million to $889 million) in Q3, and the average paid membership increased by 23% (from 30.05 million to 36.23 million) year on year.

However, Average Revenue Per Member (ARM) fell 3%, in part due to lower ARM in India, the company stated in a letter to shareholders. In Australia and South Korea, it registered higher ARM.

The co-chief executive officer of Netflix, Reed Hastings, stated on the earnings call that “We’re done with shrinking quarters…we’re back to positivity. Everything the company is focusing on, whether on content, marketing, lowering prices for the ad-supported model, paid to share..lines us up for a good next year,“

The company anticipates revenue of $7.8 billion in the upcoming quarter compared to $7.9 billion from July to September due to a strong dollar, which is a substantial drawback. According to Hastings, the US dollar's sustained strength versus other currencies was solely to blame for the sequential fall. “That’s not going to go away. But other than that, all the stars are lining up very well for us."

Vikas Bahl, writer-director of the film Goodbye, explores how various people deal with grief in different ways. There is no one to weep on for Harish (Amitabh Bachchan) when he loses his wife Gayatri (Neena Gupta). The neighbors are more interested in gossip and offering flimsy advice while his children are busy with work and partying.
