News Synopsis

Netflix has fired a delegation of editorial staff just five months after the launch of its in-house publication Tudum. Netflix has not shared many details but said Tudum wouldn't shut down. At least eight writers, including the editorial director, have tweeted that they were laid off.

Netflix has attracted many talented journalists from top online media publications, given the volatile job of traditional journalism, according to a tweet from a former employee.

As competing services such as Disney+ and HBO Max grow, Netflix is struggling to keep up. The streaming service reported last week that it lost 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2022. This is the first subscriber loss in more than 10 years. These losses are expected to continue as Netflix forecasts global losses of 2 million paying subscribers in the second quarter.

Netflix sought to squeeze more money from its customers by raising prices and testing features that cost more to share accounts. But after last week's low revenue, Netflix seems to have decided to shrink its new content marketing business.
