News Synopsis

Reed Hastings, co-founder, chairman and co-CEO of streaming giant Netflix, has announced a $ 1 million donation to an organization that provides emergency relief to Ukraine. The Netflix executive wrote, "$1m donation on the way for emergency relief to Razom."

"@evgeny_directora is a Russian-born Evgeny Afineevsky who directed the Oscar-nominated documentary" Winter on Fire: The Battle for Freedom in 2015. "

This movie records Ukraine's anxieties in 2013 and 2014. A movement unrelated to the Russian invasion and fierce opposition when student demonstrations in favour of European integration evolved into a fierce revolution demanding the resignation of President Viktor F. Yanukovich.

The Ukrainian Revolution prompted Vladimir Putin to seize Crimea in 2014 and then to foment revolt in Ukraine’s eastern provinces next to the Russian border. The president of Russia also declared those provinces part of Russia shortly before he ordered the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The organization, Razom for Ukraine, claims to be "a non-profit organization that helps Ukrainian people pursue democracy with dignity, justice and human rights."

Today, the organization has retweeted Hastings' announcement with a photo of Afineevsky with the following caption: "This is Razom with @evgeny_director what feels like ages ago. But this picture also represents a great friendship that has sustained throughout the years, and until now, when we're so glad to have Evgeny on our side."
