NEET 2023 Eligibility Criteria Updated For Overseas Citizen Of India, Check Exam Date And Other Details

For candidates for the National Eligibility Entrance Exam (NEET) who fall under the category of Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), the National Testing Agency (NTA) has released an important notice.

In accordance with the authorities' norms, OCI medical aspirants may now apply for admission to all undergraduate (UG) medical programmes in India.

"An Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) will be eligible for admission to the Undergraduate Medical/Dental/Ayurveda/ Unani/Siddha/ Homeopathy Programmes in India subject to the rules/regulations/notifications issued from time-to-time by the respective regulatory bodies or counselling Authorities/Admission Authorities in conformity with the Policy Decision of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) and/or Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA),"  reads the official notice.

Prior to this, OCI cardholders could only be admitted in exchange for an Non-Resident Indian (NRI) or supernumerary seat. The most recent order follows a related case's ruling by the Supreme Court. The NEET UG 2023 information bulletin's provision for OCI students says that they will be classified as foreigners and are ineligible for seats reserved for Indian citizens, including paid deemed college seats.

The NEET UG 2023 registration is already ongoing, and candidates have till April 6 at 11:50 p.m. to submit their applications. Via neet.nta.nic.in, interested candidates can submit an application for the NEET UG 2023 exam. The exam is scheduled to take place on May 7 at various testing exam centers around India.

This year, there will be a higher registration fee for NEET UG 2023. It was raised for all categories last year as well. This year, the general category fee is Rs 1700. It was raised from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 1,600 last year. This year's fee for the EWS and OBC-NCL categories is Rs 1600. It increased from Rs. 1,400 to Rs. 1,500 last year. It costs Rs. 1000 for candidates who fall under the SC, ST, PwD, and third gender categories. It was raised from Rs. 700 in 2022 to Rs. 800.
