News Synopsis

Tata Group has announced that Tata Sons Chairman Natrajan Chandrasekaran will be the new chief of Air India. This announcement comes after Turkey's Ilker Ayci refuses to become CEO of Tata's Air India.

N Chandrasekaran currently serves as the Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company and the promoter of more than 100 Tata operating companies. Chandrasekaran also played a key role in the acquisition of Air India from the government of India by placing a winning bid.

The Tata Group has previously appointed former Turkish Airlines former CEO Ilker Ayci as CEO of Air India, which recently acquired Air India, but the announcement has received a lot of opposition in India.

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has recently issued a message to the Air India staff. In the embassy, he stated that the Tata Group is committed to making Air India a world-class airline. He also said that the group will do its best to make Air India the best in customer service. "We want to be the best in customer service. We want Air India to be the most technologically advanced airline in the world", said N Chandrasekaran.

Air India was acquired by the Tata Group on January 27. Through the bidding process, the government sold Air India to Talace Pvt Ltd, a part of Tata Group for Rs 18,000 crore.
