News Synopsis

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued the most severe alert on Monkeypox, as the cases of the disease witnessed a sharp rise.It occurred at the end of the second meeting of WHO's emergency committee for the virus. More than 16,000 cases have been reported in 75 countries, according to WHO Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Five deaths have been reported to date as a consequence due to the virus, the doctor said. There are only two similar health crises at the moment including the coronavirus pandemic as well as the ongoing effort to eliminate the polio virus.

Dr. Tedros declared that the emergency committee was in a position of not being able to agree on whether the monkeypox outbreak is an emergency in the world health system. He said that the disease had spread throughout the globe quickly and he decided it was of global significance.

There was a lack of understanding about the new methods of transmission, which enabled it to expand as Dr. Tedros. "The WHO's evaluation indicates that the danger of contracting monkeypox is low globally and across all regions, other than the European region in which we classify the risk as high", the doctor said.

Also, there was a real possibility of a further spread but the likelihood of interfering with international traffic was at a low level for the time being He stated. Dr. Tedros stated that the declaration would aid in the speedy creation of vaccines as well as the introduction of measures to reduce the spread of the virus.

The WHO is also issuing guidelines that it hopes will encourage nations to take steps to stop the transmission of the virus and safeguard the most vulnerable. "This is an epidemic that is preventable by using the correct methods in the right group," Dr Tedros said.
