News Synopsis

A feminist activist organization and three contestants have sued the Miss France pageant, alleging unfair qualification criteria. According to an application form for 2021, the beauty pageant is searching for applicants who are at least five feet five inches tall and have never been married or had children. Wearing weaves, hair extensions, getting tattoos, or smoking are other things that can get you disqualified. The application also asks about your garment size. Contestants must not undergo any substantial bodily changes after being admitted into the tournament, otherwise, they will be fined €5,000.

The organization 'Osez Le Féminisme,' or 'Dare to be a Feminist,' has launched an appeal against Endemol Production, the pageant's parent business. This feminist organization, together with three unsuccessful candidates, claimed they were targeting the Miss France corporation as well as Endemol Production, the firm that produces the yearly television show that airs on the TF1 channel. Miss France candidates, according to the organization, provide a job service and should be protected from discrimination under French employment law. In France, any discrimination against employees based on their gender, sexual orientation, family status, or genetic traits is illegal.
