News Synopsis

Former acting White House chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney has joined the crypto compliance platform Astra Protocol as a strategic advisor. He will focus on strategy for the company, which is developing decentralized compliance products for the crypto industry.

His responsibilities also include helping Astra understand evolving cryptocurrency policies and to develop the company’s role in web3. Web3 is the term used for the decentralized internet that uses blockchain technology to disperse the current corporate control over the web.

Mr. Mulvaney represented the fifth district of South California in the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2017 and also formed the Congressional Blockchain Caucus. Before becoming the acting White House chief of staff under former President Donald Trump, he served as director of the Office of Management and Budget for three years. He also acts as an advisor for the crypto trade association Chamber of Digital Commerce.

Mr. Mulvaney’s appointment comes as many former government officials start joining the fintech and crypto sectors. Earlier to Mick Mulvaney, the former US Securities and Exchange Commission chairman, Jay Clayton joined the cryptocurrency custody platform Fireblocks Inc as an advisor, while continuing to work as a senior policy advisor at the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell.
