News Synopsis

Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), a leading City Gas Distribution (CGD) company, has joined hands with Nawgati, a local fuel aggregator startup, to drive the adoption of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts. The collaboration was officially announced during the MGL CNG Mahotsav 2.0, with Nawgati taking charge of managing a comprehensive fleet program aimed at promoting sustainable fuel solutions.

MGL’s CNG Mahotsav 2.0: Benefits for Fleet Operators

The CNG Mahotsav 2.0 initiative offers significant incentives to fleet operators who either purchase new commercial CNG vehicles or retrofit their existing ones. This program encourages a shift from conventional fuels like petrol and diesel to cleaner, eco-friendly CNG. The incentives vary based on the type and tonnage of vehicles.

To further support this transition, Nawgati has developed a user-friendly digital platform for fleet operators, enabling seamless management of refueling operations at participating MGL CNG stations.

Streamlined Fleet Management Through Digital Solutions

Fleet operators can register on the MGL fleet platform, where they can:

  • Set up accounts.

  • Add vehicles and drivers.

  • Manage refueling operations efficiently.

The digital solution simplifies payments and ensures a hassle-free experience for fleet operators.

Dual Payment Solutions for Convenience

To enhance flexibility, MGL and Nawgati have introduced a dual payment solution for fleet operators. This includes:

  1. MGL Fuel Card: Available in physical and virtual formats, the card is accepted at all MGL CNG stations across Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad, as well as select BEST bus depots in Ghatkopar and Goregaon.

  2. Digital Payments: Operators can use the MGL Connect app or the Nawgati Fuelling app to make secure payments at point-of-sale (POS) machines or through online transactions.

Nawgati’s Commitment to Sustainability

Vaibhav Kaushik, Co-founder and CEO of Nawgati, expressed the company's dedication to supporting MGL’s vision for sustainable initiatives. “This partnership ensures a seamless transition to CNG for fleet operators, making refueling and payments efficient and user-friendly. We believe this collaboration will pave the way for a greener future, not just in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad but across the country,” he stated.

Technological Integration for Enhanced Efficiency

As a technical partner, Nawgati will support MGL’s closed-loop payment system, ensuring smooth transactions for fleet owners who adopt CNG vehicles under MGL’s promotional scheme. This system aims to boost CNG sales while promoting environmental sustainability.

Additionally, Nawgati and MGL have signed an MoU to integrate the MGL Tez app with the Nawgati Fuelling app. This integration will allow commercial vehicle owners to pre-schedule refueling slots at select BEST bus depots, significantly reducing wait times and enhancing operational efficiency.

Impact of the Collaboration

The partnership between MGL and Nawgati is a significant step towards creating a sustainable CNG ecosystem in the region. By providing financial incentives, streamlining fleet operations, and integrating advanced digital payment systems, the initiative supports environmental goals while fostering long-term growth in CNG adoption.
