Mexico Aims to Triple its Fertilizer Production

The government of Mexico said on Sunday that Mexico is aiming to triple fertilizer production in support of plans to increase local agricultural production and curb consumer price inflation.

The government is investing in existing fertilizer plants in line with the desire to reduce reliance on foreign imports and increase production in order to ensure reasonable prices for staple foods such as corn, rice, and beans. Consumer prices rose 7.68% in the year to April and increased 0.54% in the month alone, according to non-seasonally adjusted figures released by the national statistics agency.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador expanded its program to provide farmers with free fertilizer to several more states, including Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, and Veracruz, at a series of weekend meetings with producers.

Lopez Obrador said at an event for the promotion of the government’s campaign to increase the production of basic foods they need to produce as it is very good in theory and what is natural is also the best, but we need to increase production.
