News Synopsis

Meta may have stopped pursuing cryptocurrencies, but the company is serious about migrating its entire platform to the world of Web3. According to a filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the company has filed eight new trademark applications to attach its logo to various web3-related projects, including cryptocurrencies and the Metaverse.

Six of the filings mention cryptos, metaverse or blockchain. The filings suggest towards Facebook bring online social networking and dating services that will facilitate networking among crypto investors. The company is also working on ways o bring entertainment and electronic publishing services within virtual reality, telecommunication services relating to tokens, blockchain assets, cryptocurrencies, and other virtual assets.

The company is also planning advertising services for web3 and the metaverse. One of the filings was about designing advertising services through virtual reality networks and metaverse. 

Earlier this month, the CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed the company’s plans to bring NFTs to the Instagram and Facebook platforms. 

The company is also continuing its work with blockchain-based payments, despite shutting down its crypto project, called Diem. The company said that in its annual 10-K filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission that Novi digital wallet could use blockchain-based assets like stablecoin USDP in the future.
