News Synopsis

The patents of Meta have revealed the company’s plans to commercialise the metaverse. The Financial Times reviewed the patent applications of the company, where it found references to a “virtual store” that will allow the users to buy virtual products along with the objects that correspond to real world items that will be sponsored by third party brands.

The patent also includes the brands who go through the bidding process to sponsor the appearance of an object in a virtual store in metaverse. A spokesperson of Meta has said that it's not important that the patents necessarily cover the technology used in the products or services. But it is believed that it will allow the brands to sponsor the objects in the virtual store through the bidding process.

Meta rebranded itself in October 2021, with its plans to move into metaverse technology, a virtual world that is accessible through the immense technologies like VR and AR.
