News Synopsis

The multinational technology conglomerate, Meta has developed an AI supermarket and claims it to be the fastest in the world once the supercomputer is ready in mid-2022. The supercomputer called the AI Research SuperCluster (RSC) is used by the researchers at Meta to train large models in natural language processing (NLP) and computer vision for research.

The researchers aim at training models with trillions of parameters in the near future. Designed for the first time in 2017, the first generation of this infrastructure has 22,000 NVIDIA V100 Tensor Core GPUs in a single cluster that performs 35,000 training jobs a day.

Early benchmarks on RSC have shown that the system runs computer vision workflows up to 20 times faster and trains large-scale NLP models three times faster. The company has said that RSC is up and running currently, but the development is still ongoing. The company also claimed that once phase two is completed, it will be the fastest AI supercomputer in the world.
