News Synopsis

Mercedes Benz is set to expand its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio aggressively across major markets, including India. After launching several top-tier EVs in recent years, the German automaker will introduce its first entry-level EV in India—the EQA electric SUV—on July 8, 2024.

The EQA, an all-electric equivalent of the GLA, is one of six EVs Mercedes plans to launch in India by the end of the decade. The facelifted EQA, which debuted globally in August last year, will be offered in India as a fully imported CBU model.

Expected Exteriors of the Mercedes Benz EQA

The EQA's design is reminiscent of Mercedes' all-electric range, featuring a blanked-off nose with a gloss black panel adorned with Mercedes’ signature star pattern and a full-width light bar at the front.

Sleek LED headlamps and an LED DRL strip stretching between the headlamps enhance its modern look. The rear features a connected taillight assembly, while aero-specific alloy wheels and updated front and rear bumpers add to its distinctiveness.

Despite these updates, the EQA's silhouette remains similar to the ICE-powered GLA.

Expected Interiors and Features

Inside, the EQA mirrors the interiors of Mercedes' current EV range, with a star-studded pattern on the gloss black dashboard panel. An infotainment system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a digital driver display are housed in a twin-screen arrangement within the dashboard.

Key interior features include turbine-style air vents with blue inserts, a touch-capacitive three-spoke steering wheel, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, and a Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos.

Safety features include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Expected Powertrain Specifications

Internationally, the EQA is available in four variants: EQA 250, EQA 250+, EQA 300 4Matic, and EQA 350 4Matic, each with different battery and motor configurations. The EQA 250 and 250+ both produce 188 bhp and 385 Nm of torque.

The EQA 300 delivers 225 bhp and 390 Nm, while the EQA 350 offers 288 bhp and 520 Nm. The EQA 250, 300, and 350 come with a 66.5 kWh battery pack, whereas the EQA 250+ features a larger 70.5 kWh unit.

The SUV can achieve a range of up to 560 km (WLTP) with the 70.5 kWh battery and up to 528 km (WLTP) with the 66.5 kWh battery. In India, the EQA is expected to be available in all-wheel-drive formats featuring the 4Matic system.

Conclusion

With the launch of the EQA, Mercedes Benz is taking significant steps to establish a strong foothold in the Indian EV market. The EQA promises a blend of luxury, performance, and cutting-edge technology, making it a noteworthy addition to India's growing electric vehicle landscape.
