MEIL wins order for 47 oil and gas rigs from ONGC

News Synopsis

Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL), has received an order for 47 oil and gas rigs from ONGC Limited. It plans to have 15 rigs up and running by the end of May.

K Satyanarayana, Technical Head of Rigs Project at MEIL has said that most of the 15 rigs have reached their respective locations and commissioning will be expedited soon. The total order form ONGC was for 47 rigs-20 are workover rigs, and 27 are land drilling rigs. He further said that it will be able to commission the first lot 15 rigs.

He said the capacity of the 20 workover Rigs ranges from 50 to 150 tonnes and the capacity of onshore drilling rigs ranges from 1500hp to 2000hp. MEIL has delivered 10 drilling rigs till now. 

Despite Covid-19, MEIL strives to complete the project with its expertise, dedication and hard work. While the problem of parts procurement from global suppliers remains, the industry's supply chain is slowly recovering, contributing to the timely delivery of drill rigs.

The MEIL official has also said, as the energy prices increase, the advanced rigs are very crucial for the Indian energy sector to drill oil and gas wells faster and increase the oil and gas production for domestic use.
