News Synopsis

Gujarat located Meghmani Finechem Limited (MFL) is a major chemical maker in India, has inaugurated the country's largest Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride Resin (CPVC) manufacturing facility in Dahej Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) on Monday.

The brand new CPVC manufacturing facility that was developed with an estimated price of around Rs 190 crore will be equipped with 30000 Tonnes of Production Per year (TPA) which is the second-to-none of this kind in India. The first plant that had 10,000 TPA was established in the name of DCW Limited in Tamil Nadu. Maulik Patel MFL's Chairman and Managing Director, MFL stated that with the installation of the MFL plant India's dependence on imports of CPVC could be cut by nearly 20 % to 22 percent. Today, 95 percent of CPVC Resin requirement is met by import alone.

"At present CPVC resin demand in India is around 1,40,000 TPA. With the commissioning of the MFL plant at Dahej, the country's total production capacity would go up to 40,000 TPA," said Patel in his address to the media. CPVC is a particular kind made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) with added chloride. It is used primarily as a raw material by PVC pipes producers like Finolex Industries, Astral Pipes, Supreme Industries, Ashirvad Pipes, Jain Irrigation, Prince Pipes & Fitting Ltd, and a host of others that operate in unorganized sectors.

The new CPVC plant is placed strategically on a 60-hectare plot of land in Dahej PCPIR, where the company operates five other chemical facilities, including Caustic Soda, Caustic Potash, Chloromethanes, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Epichlorohydrin (ECH).
