News Synopsis

Maruti Suzuki India is planning a new production facility in Sonipat District, Haryana. The 900 acres plant will replace the Gurugram facility of the company and is likely to be the largest production unit of the company in India. The Sonipat facility will have four assembly lines and is expected to have a capacity of about a million units. The Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India, R C Bhargava has said that the construction of the new plant will start soon and the first lineup will be ready by 2025.

The company also sources vehicles from the Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) in Gujarat other than its Haryana Plant. The upcoming plant will replace the Gurugram facility of the company due to several residential areas nearby, which led to issues of traffic and road congestion.

The total vehicle production of Maruti Suzuki India stood at 152,029 units, which shows a decline of almost 2% against the manufacturing recorded in the same month in 2020. The company, like other auto and tech companies, has also faced an impact of the electronics shortage on the production of vehicles in the past few months. Its sales also declined 4% in December 2021.
