Introduction of Jimny in Maruti Suzuki's SUV Portfolio

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), the country's leading carmaker, has introduced the Jimny model with prices ranging from Rs 12.74 lakh to Rs 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This strategic move aims to secure a prominent position in the rapidly expanding sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment in India. With the launch of Jimny, Maruti Suzuki envisions becoming the top SUV manufacturer in the country, further strengthening its diverse SUV portfolio.

Pricing and Variants

The Jimny model is available in both manual and automatic trims. The four-wheel drive manual trims are priced between Rs 12.74 lakh and Rs 13.85 lakh, while the 4-speed automatic trims are tagged between Rs 13.94 lakh and Rs 15.05 lakh. The model comes in two trims, namely Zeta and Alpha, and will be retailed through Maruti Suzuki's premium Nexa dealerships.

Milestone in Maruti Suzuki's SUV Journey

Expressing his enthusiasm, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of MSI, highlighted that the launch of the Jimny (5-door) marks a significant milestone in their SUV portfolio. Maruti Suzuki aspires to become the leading SUV manufacturer in India, and the Jimny is expected to play a crucial role in achieving this goal. Takeuchi emphasized the importance of India as both a domestic market and a global export base for Suzuki Motor Corporation.

India as the Global Launch Pad for Jimny

Takeuchi further announced that India would serve as the mother plant for the Jimny (5-door), making it the first market to witness its launch. This decision underscores Maruti Suzuki's commitment to the "Make-In-India" initiative, reinforcing its role as a global manufacturing hub. By choosing India as the global launch pad, Maruti Suzuki aims to leverage the country's manufacturing capabilities and showcase its commitment to producing world-class vehicles.

Advanced Features and Fuel Efficiency

The Jimny model is equipped with the ALLGRIP PRO (4WD) system, including a low-range transfer gear (4L mode), ensuring exceptional off-road capabilities. With a ground clearance of 210 mm, the Jimny is built to tackle rough terrains with ease. MSI highlights the model's fuel efficiency, with the automatic trims offering 16.94 km per litre and the five-speed manual variants providing a fuel economy of 16.39 km per litre.

Maruti Suzuki Subscribe and Market Ambitions

Maruti Suzuki offers customers the opportunity to own the Jimny through its subscription-based service, Maruti Suzuki Subscribe, with monthly fees starting from Rs 33,550. The company expects the Jimny, along with other popular models like Brezza, Fronx, and Grand Vitara, to contribute to its pursuit of capturing the top position in the SUV segment. Maruti Suzuki aims to achieve a 25% market share in the overall SUV segment during the current fiscal year.

Global Success and Five-Door Configuration

Having sold over 32 lakh units of Jimny worldwide in 199 countries and regions since 1970, Suzuki has a proven track record of success with this model. While the global version of Jimny is available as a three-door configuration, the introduction of the five-door version in India is a first for the model. This development involved an investment of approximately Rs 960 crore, reflecting Suzuki's commitment to meeting the evolving needs of Indian consumers.

Conclusion:

Maruti Suzuki's launch of the Jimny model marks a significant step in the company's strategic expansion in the growing SUV segment in India. With its competitive pricing, advanced features, and fuel efficiency, the Jimny is poised to attract the attention of discerning Indian consumers.

Maruti Suzuki's focus on building a diverse SUV portfolio, including the Jimny, reflects its ambition to become the country's leading SUV manufacturer.
