News Synopsis

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has delivered a landmark performance by registering its highest-ever monthly sales volume in January 2026, underscoring the company’s dominance in India’s passenger vehicle market and its growing global footprint.

The country’s largest carmaker sold 2,36,963 vehicles during the month, marking a sharp rise from 2,12,251 units in January 2025. The milestone reflects steady domestic demand and an exceptional surge in exports.

Domestic Sales Remain Stable as Utility Vehicles Drive Momentum

Passenger Vehicles Continue to Anchor Volumes

Maruti Suzuki’s domestic sales stood at 1,78,300 units in January 2026, including passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles. Supplies to other OEMs accounted for 7,643 units, taking total domestic sales (including OEMs) to 1,85,943 units.

Passenger vehicles remained the backbone of the company’s domestic operations, with 1,74,529 units sold during the month, slightly higher than the year-ago period.

Utility Vehicles Lead Growth

Utility vehicles once again emerged as Maruti Suzuki’s strongest growth driver, reflecting India’s sustained shift towards SUVs and MPVs.

The company’s utility vehicle portfolio — comprising Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, XL6, Jimny and Invicto — recorded 75,609 units in January 2026. This marks a solid increase over 65,093 units sold in January 2025, reinforcing Maruti Suzuki’s expanding presence in the SUV and people-mover segments.

Compact Cars See Pressure, Mini Segment Shows Stability

Mixed Trends in Entry-Level Segments

The combined mini and compact car segments reported 87,006 units in January 2026, compared with 96,488 units in the same month last year.

  • Mini cars such as Alto and S-Presso contributed 14,268 units

  • Compact cars including Baleno, Swift, Dzire, WagonR and Celerio together accounted for 72,738 units

The trend highlights evolving consumer preferences toward larger vehicles despite Maruti Suzuki’s continued leadership in entry-level categories.

Vans and Light Commercial Vehicles Hold Ground

Eeco and Super Carry Performance

The Eeco van remained a stable performer with 11,914 units sold, broadly in line with January 2025 levels.

Meanwhile, the Super Carry light commercial vehicle recorded 3,771 units, indicating mild softness in the small commercial vehicle segment amid broader market fluctuations.

Exports Surge to All-Time Monthly High

Overseas Shipments Nearly Double

Exports emerged as one of the biggest highlights of January 2026. Maruti Suzuki shipped 51,020 vehicles overseas, its highest-ever monthly export volume.

This represents a dramatic jump from 27,100 units exported in January 2025, underlining India’s growing role as a global manufacturing hub for Suzuki’s compact cars and utility vehicles.

FY2025–26 Cumulative Sales Show Strong Momentum

The robust January performance lifted Maruti Suzuki’s cumulative sales for April–January FY2025–26 to 1.98 million units, compared with 1.84 million units in the corresponding period last fiscal.

The growth reflects a balanced strategy combining domestic market leadership with expanding international operations.

Strong Start to Calendar Year 2026

With record-breaking monthly sales, robust utility vehicle demand, and unprecedented export growth, Maruti Suzuki has begun 2026 on a strong footing. The performance highlights the company’s ability to adapt to shifting consumer preferences while leveraging scale, manufacturing strength, and global demand to sustain long-term growth.
