News Synopsis

The medium-sized electric SUV Martis Suzuki YY8 will be launched in 2025 with two battery configurations and a range of up to 500km. Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has made a huge investment in Kharkhoda, Haryana, and has taken steps to establish a new manufacturing unit of approximately 900 acres.

Suzuki will use 100 acres to launch motorcycles, and MSIL will use the remaining 800 acres to produce electric vehicles. Depending on the legal reservation jobs for young people in Haryana in the private sector, they will be enrolled in 75% of the available jobs. Approximately 11,000 young people will get employment at MSIL's base and the motorcycle sector employs approximately 3,000.

The Indo-Japanese manufacturer invests more than Rs. 11,000 crore in the first phase of the new base in Haryana and aims to deploy 2.5 lakh units per annum. SMC recently announced a large investment of Rs 10,445 crore for the local production of EVs and batteries in Gujarat.

Internally codenamed YY8 5-seater may be offered in two battery configurations upon arrival. It has a larger ratio than the Hyundai Creta and can target a price tag of approximately Rs. 13-15 lakh(ex-showroom). That way, the car will have the same dimensions as the MG ZS EV with the entry-level Tata Nexon EV price tag.
