News Synopsis

L&T Technology Services is the first technology company to publicly express a desire for the government to direct the allocation of spectrum for captive 5G networks. It will obtain spectrum to establish a 5G non-public network in order to develop use cases for the technology, according to CEO Amit Chadha. In addition, the engineering and R&D services firm will deploy 5G solutions for parent company Larsen & Toubro globally.

India recently issued regulations allowing non-telecom enterprises to obtain spectrum directly from the telecom department in order to build private 5G networks. "We have already applied for the 5G spectrum for our Mysore campus. We are building use cases in medical emergency room settings and remote operating procedures … In plant engineering, we are implementing reliable operations and proactive maintenance scheduling. The third one is defence related. We have also set up a device testing lab in Bangalore and Dallas and are now setting up one for discrete manufacturing in Munich," Chadha, who is also its managing director, told ET.

The company has formed a collaboration with network software provider Mavenir to provide 5G automation services and rapid integration of open radio access network products that they will market together.
