In 2024, Kia Motors' president and CEO, Ho-Sung Song, announced the company’s commitment to introducing two mass-market electric vehicles (EVs) tailored for emerging markets. Building on this, Kia has revealed plans to launch two locally manufactured EVs in India by 2026, with one expected to hit the market this year. These upcoming EVs will be based on the popular Kia Carens MPV and the newly launched Kia Syros subcompact SUV. However, the company has yet to confirm which model will debut first on Indian roads.

Kia’s EV Expansion Discussed at Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025

During the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Harpreet Brar, Head of Sales & Marketing at Kia India, highlighted the brand’s EV roadmap. Kia is already present in the premium EV segment with the Kia EV6. Brar emphasized the company's efforts to make EVs more accessible to the Indian market by launching two new mass-market electric models.

Kia EV6 Updates and Performance Enhancements

The Kia EV6, currently the brand's flagship EV in India, has recently received a facelift. Notable upgrades include an expanded battery capacity from 77.5 kWh to 84 kWh. Despite these changes, its range decreased slightly from 708 km to 650 km per charge. The EV6 continues to deliver impressive performance with 320 bhp and 605 Nm of torque. Additionally, its ultra-fast 350 kW DC charging capability allows the battery to charge from 0 to 80% in just 18 minutes.

Kia EV9: A Three-Row EV Flagship for India by 2026

At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Kia also showcased its upcoming three-row flagship EV, the Kia EV9. Expected to join the Indian market in 2026, the EV9 is part of Kia's strategy to expand its EV offerings across diverse segments.

Global EV Roadmap: 15 Models by 2027

Kia has ambitious global plans, with 15 new EV models slated for release by 2027. The EV3 will mark the start of this expansion in 2025, followed by the EV2, EV4, and EV5. Of these, six models will cater to the mass market, enhancing accessibility to EV technology worldwide.

Anticipated Features of Kia’s Mass-Market EVs in India

Though Kia has not disclosed full specifications for the upcoming EVs, it is expected that the entry-level model will share technology and components with the Inster EV from Kia’s parent company. This EV is anticipated to offer a drive range of over 350 km on a single charge, appealing to budget-conscious buyers looking for sustainable mobility solutions.
