News Synopsis

A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by former President Donald Trump against Twitter last year, and then CEO Jack Dorsey over alleged censorship.

US District Judge James Donato  of the Northern District of California ruled against Donald Trump and other plaintiffs who were seeking class-action status against the social media company, claiming that their accounts were censored by Twitter did not violate First Amendment rights

Twitter suspended Mr. Trump's personal account two days after his supporters attacked the US Capital on January 6, 2021. Trump then launched his own social media platform, Truth Social, with no plans to return to Twitter if it becomes an option someday.

The ruling highlights potential challenges as Musk is working to secure a $44 billion deal to buy and keep Twitter private. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has indicated plans to ease the company's content moderation practices and suggested that discussions on the platform should be held as long as it does not violate the law.
