News Synopsis

US carmaker Jeep, owned by Stellantis, has released the first image of an upcoming electric SUV and confirmed that it will be available in 2023.

According to a report, Jeep took longer to accept electrification than many of its competitors. The automaker has released a plug-in hybrid version of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUV, is planning a Trailhawk, an off-road version of the Grand Cherokee with a hybrid engine.

However, the report says the unnamed SUV, due out next year, will be Jeep's first all-battery electric vehicle. It recently announced that it will release a "zero-emission" version of all vehicles by 2025, along with a variation of the plug hybrid.

The new Jeep EV is within the scope of last year's comprehensive plan by Stellantis, a multinational conglomerate formed last year by Fiat Chrysler's merger with PSA Group in France, to power most brands' lineup. These include the  EV version of the Ram 1500 pickup truck and the Dodge Electric Muscle Car.

On Tuesday, Stellantis also teased the next Ram 1500 truck with images showing the vehicle's lighting mix. The image is just like a design sketch, leaving the possibility that Ram has not yet agreed on the final shape of the next electric truck.

The report also included that Ram is making an electric ProMaster delivery van, which will be incorporated into Amazon’s fleet starting in 2023. Both the Jeep EV and Ram 1500 EV is likely to use the Stellantis' STLA platform, one of the four platforms used by the automaker for its upcoming EV lineup.
