For the purpose of providing a fallback location in case things don't go according to plan, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has selected 48 backup sites throughout the world.

As per media sources, ISRO personnel have identified these backup spots to guarantee the astronauts' safe recovery and rescue during the return flight.

The Indian space agency officials will station themselves in the Arabian Sea, where they hope to recover both the crew and the module if all goes as planned, according to Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) experts.

The Gaganyaan mission is India's first human spaceflight endeavor, designed to showcase ISRO's capacity for human spaceflight.

Three astronauts will be dispatched on a three-day journey to complete a 400-kilometer orbit in this mission.

"The Gaganyaan mission is progressing at a reasonable rate. Before the last mission is launched, we are optimistic that we can complete at least one unmanned mission this year," the official stated, as cited by Hindustan Times.

The official stated that the space agency had originally decided between two landing sports in Indian seas, but ultimately decided on the Arabian Sea landing site due to the unpredictable nature of the Bay of Bengal and its turbulent waters.

The space agency will do a number of tests to ensure the devices are safe to use and can return people to Earth without incident.

The four astronauts chosen for the trip by the Indian Air Force were recently presented by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

Group captains Prashant Balakrishnan Nair, Ajit Krishnan, Angad Pratap, and Wing Commander Subhanshu Shukla of the Indian Air Force have been preparing for the Gaganyaan mission at Russian and Indian facilities for the last five years.
