IRDAI appointed Debasish Panda as its Chairman

News Synopsis

The Central Government of India appointed Debasish Panda as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). Debasish Panda was earlier the former secretary of the Financial Services. The post of Chief Executive Officer of the IRDAI was vacant for the last 11 months. He has been appointed as the CEO of IRDAI for a period of three years or till further orders by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The former CEO of IRDAI, Subhash C. Kuntia retired in the month of May last year. It is said that no one was appointed to take over as CEO to appoint Mr. Panda who was set to retire in the month of January this year. An anonymous industrial official said: "The IRDAI Chairman's post has been vacant since May. It is also not known whether the government is waiting for some bureaucrat to retire so that he/she can be accommodated in IRDAI."
