News Synopsis

USA's UPS and travel giant InterGlobe Enterprises have partnered to operate a logistics company in India to provide a portfolio of business-to-business (B2B) services.

The new company, Movin, will utilize ground and air resources to provide daily, time-limited, and express services. Headquartered in Gurugram, Movin will launch services in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, and Bangalore before expanding to other locations.

Ufku Akaltan, UPS president, of the Indian subcontinent, Middle East, and Africa said that UPS international business has been operating in the country for 30 years now. This is a complementary product. The company will be complimenting UPS international business with what Movin will be doing. So, there is synergy.

UPS aims to expand its presence in India, Akaltan. UPS 747 connects India directly to the European, North American, and Latin American markets. UPS had a joint venture with a Jet Airways subsidiary, but the venture went dead after the airline went bankrupt. India was on the cards of the global logistics giant.

German logistics group DHL acquired Blue Dart in 2004 and currently holds a 74% stake in the company. UPS US rival FedEx invested $100 million in logistics startup Delhivery last year.
