News Synopsis

Chipmaker Intel has announced the P and U series brands for two new processor series in the 12th generation Alder Lake family. With these new processors, Intel aims to power the next generation of slim and lighter laptops.

According to the chipmaker, the new P-series and U-series processors will power more than 250 laptops in 2022 alone. These laptops and notebooks include laptops with 2-in-1, convertible, removable and foldable screens among others.

Intel has said that the company is combining the power and efficiency core for these kinds of laptops for the first time. The announcement comes after the company launched high-end desktop and gaming laptop processors in 2021 and in the beginning of 2022.

The new Intel P and U series processors have up to 14 cores, combining 6 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores. To smartphone enthusiasts, this may look similar, as Qualcomm and other chipmakers also have their own chipsets offered in similar combinations.

The company claims the performance benefits of up to 70% in multi-thread and up to twice the performance in terms of editing, which will be beneficial to creators. Other than these processors, Intel is also packing fast connectivity options including Wi-Fi 6E.
