News Synopsis

On Wednesday, the Chief Executive Officer of Infosys, Salil Parekh while announcing the quarterly results informed that Infosys is pulling out of Russia and halting its operations in Russia. Mr. Parekh said: “We have started to transition all of our work from our centers in Russia to our centers outside Russia. We have less than 100 employees in Russia. We work with no Russian clients and the work we do [there] is with a small number of global clients in Russia,” With this decision, Infosys becomes the first Indian information technology (IT) company to quit and stop its operations in Russia.

There have been continuous calls and pressure on India and Indian companies to cease business with Russia, lately, after the Russia-Ukraine Conflict. When asked about the business with the Russian Clients, Mr. Parekh said: “We don’t have any plans going ahead.” Other than this, the IT firm also announced that it will be providing a $1 million fund to cater to the humanitarian needs in the region. Mr. Parekh further informed that Infosys is providing assistance like re-skilling of individuals who have been displaced as a result of their decision to quit their business in Russia.
