News Synopsis

After a two-year hiatus, IndiGo has introduced trainee pilots in various departments to strengthen its operations. IndiGo, the largest airline in India, operates approximately 1,500 flights per day. It has added some domestic flights, but we plan to start flights to Muscat, Kuala Lumpur in May, and Istanbul in June.

The average airline utilization is about 11 hours per day, compared to 13.5 hours in 2019. However, as more flights increase, aircraft utilization increases, which may result in an increase in requirements for pilots.

During the pandemic, the airline hired pilots for the ATR Aircraft Fleet (mainly to replace expatriate commanders), but not for the Airbus fleet. The introduction of a junior co-pilot was also put on hold as the airline reduced its operations.

The junior officers currently accepted are selected from the cadet pilot program run by the airline in partnership with flight training institutions in India and abroad.

This is the first time IndiGo has introduced a cultural training program for its junior first officers. It will help the airline to improve interdepartmental connections and make a culture of trust and respect among the staff. Junior pilots are being asked to spend time at check-in counters or visit the engineering department to know their work processes under the training program.
