News Synopsis

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Indian ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat on Wednesday about India's common interests far outweigh their differences. Wang Yi met with ambassador Rawat, who was in charge of India's top office in Beijing in March this year.

China's foreign ministers should support rather than weaken both sides, strengthen cooperation rather than protect them, and increase mutual trust rather than doubt, reported the Xinhua News Agency.

China's supreme diplomat said both sides should work together to tackle various global challenges and protect the common interests of both countries and the vast number of developing countries.

From April to May 2020, relations between India and China deteriorated after the Chinese side unilaterally attempted to change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) of the western sector. These actions seriously disrupted peace and tranquility along with the LAC's western sector.

The meeting between Wang Yi and Ambassador Rawat took place on the same day that Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually attended the BRICS Business Forum. The Prime Minister on Wednesday emphasized the important role of the BRICS countries in the global focus on post-covid recovery.
