News Synopsis

According to a recent report, India requires investment worth $20 billion per year to achieve its climate targets and to fund its green transition. The White Paper by FICCI and Trilegal indicates that India needs more funds than allotted, international finance, and green plan investments to achieve its climate targets. This report also suggests some reforms in India’s power sector, to promote environmental, social, and governance-led investment in India's climate transition. This report also focuses light on how corporates can help towards sustainability growth, non-financial metrics, and management of environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks. It further said that how the companies operate will be changed due to the incorporation of ESG and sustainability factors into the legal framework by the regulators. The report stated: "India needs USD 20 billion worth of investments each year to achieve its climate targets and fund its green transition. It needs a large budget allocation, international finance from bilateral and multilateral sources, and green private investments."
