India and Germany inks Agreement for Cooperation in Agro-Ecology

News Synopsis

On Monday, India, and Germany, as one of the deliverables of the 6th India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC), virtually inked a joint declaration on Forest Landscape Restoration and on agroecology and sustainable management of natural resources. This Joint Declaration of Intent on Forest Landscape Restoration was signed virtually by India's Environment Minister, Bhupender Yadav, and Germany's Minister for Environment, Nature Conservation, Steffi Lemke. The government informed that this declaration of intent will offer the platform to advance the collaboration between the Indian and Germany and provide support in areas such as conservation and restoration, protection of environment and climate, and conservation of biodiversity.

Other than this, Narendra Singh Tomar, India’s Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and Germany's Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze inked the declaration in a virtual mode, regarding agroecology and management of natural resources in a sustainable manner. Germany, under these deals, aims to provide up to 300 million euros by the year 2025 for financial and technical cooperation for projects. The officials further informed that both the nations also envision establishing a joint research center to develop and share cutting-edge knowledge with practitioners from India, Germany, and other countries.
