According to a report released on Wednesday by NASSCOM and Deloitte, digital engineering (DE) is replacing traditional engineering, research, and development (ER&D) in India.

According to the report, "The Future Growth Sectors in Digital Engineering," India's position as a location for DE offshoring and outsourcing will be improved by streamlining the requirements for foreign companies to establish centers, enhancing the ease of doing business, and addressing concerns about patents.

According to the report, "DE" utilises digital technology to create innovatively, connected, and intelligent goods for clients and embraces the idea of device-as-a-service. Once-important ER&D sectors included industrial, energy, oil and gas, hardware and electronics, and automotive. Consumer packaged goods (CPG), retail, health care, banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) are currently increasing their shares in DE.

The nation's ecology for digital engineering is changing thanks to collaboration, a growing skill pool, and government assistance. According to the report, India's data protection architecture has to be improved.

The development of upskilling/reskilling programs that concentrate on the DE application in particular industry domains will assist strike the correct balance between developing technical capabilities and industry-specific and soft skills, according to the report.

Over 85% of the nation's total digital talent is concentrated in the mature tech centers of Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Chennai. The 28–30% percentage of digital engineering in India's overall ER&D revenues that it currently has is anticipated to increase significantly in the future.
