News Synopsis

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for various parts of the country, highlighting contrasting conditions. While scorching heatwave grips North India, heavy rainfall is expected to lash the Eastern and Southern regions over the next few days.

Scorching Heatwave Persists in North India

  • Red Alert for Uttar Pradesh: The IMD has issued a red alert warning for severe heatwave conditions in several parts of Uttar Pradesh from June 19 to June 20. Residents can expect scorching temperatures that could pose health risks.

  • Gradual Relief Expected: Thankfully, a decline in heat intensity is forecast in Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from today onwards, offering some respite from the scorching conditions.

  • North Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh: These regions can expect a hot weather spell on June 19th, although not as intense as the heatwave gripping Uttar Pradesh.

Monsoon Rains Bring Relief to East and South

  • Heavy Rainfall Forecast in Northeast: A cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam is triggering widespread rainfall. Isolated to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal from June 19 to June 21.

  • Extended Wet Spell: Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram can expect heavy rainfall starting from June 19th and continuing till June 22nd.

  • Southwest Monsoon Advancement: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts favorable conditions for the Southwest Monsoon to extend its reach towards Northwest Bay of Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra, parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and remaining parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal over the next few days. This could bring much-needed relief from the heatwave in these regions.

  • Heavy Rainfall Along the Coast: Two cyclonic circulations observed by the IMD over the West central Bay of Bengal and North Arabian Sea are expected to bring isolated heavy rainfall to Coastal Karnataka, Mahe, and Kerala from June 19 to June 22.

Strong Winds Expected in North India

The IMD warns of a high chance of powerful surface winds occurring over Northwest India in the next two days. People in these regions should exercise caution, especially those traveling or working outdoors.

Southwest Monsoon Advancement

According to the IMD weather report, conditions are favorable for the Southwest Monsoon to advance towards the Northwest Bay of Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra, parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the remaining parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal over the next few days.

The IMD also predicts a high likelihood of powerful surface winds occurring over Northwest India in the next two days.
