News Synopsis

HS2 has signed a contract with Hitachi and Alstom to build the fastest train in the United Kingdom. The deal includes the manufacturing of 54 trains for the high-speed network. It will also lead to the creation of 2,500 jobs in the UK.

The first stage of the manufacturing will be done at the UK rail factory of Hitachi. Alstom will perform the activities in the second stage which includes fit-out and testing. The first train is expected to come out after around 2027 and is planning to be in use in two to three years after production. The massive project is aiming to create a high-speed rail link between London and major cities in the Midlands and North of England.
