News Synopsis

The court in Tokyo convicted the former executive Greg Kelly of Japanese Automobile company Nissan Motors in the Carlos Ghosn pay case. The court found Greg Kelly working hands in gloves with Nissan’s former CEO Carlos Ghosn pay disclosure dispute. Mr. Kelly assisted his former senior in the company to hide $80.4 mn of his income from the authorities. He has been suspended for three years. The court has sentenced him to six months in jail. However, prosecutors were demanding two years of a sentence for Mr. Kelly. The main culprit of the case Mr. Carlos Ghosn managed to flee to his country Lebanon by hiding in a box in 2019. However, Mr. Kelly, being a US citizen will not be sent to prison as long as he complies with the conditions of this sentence for the next three years. The court also held the automobile company guilty for not disclosing the pay of his former CEO. The car company was fined 200 million yen by the company. This case also became a source of dispute in the US-Japan relations. The US ambassador Rahm Emanuel welcomed the decision of the Tokyo court and said that Mr. Greg Kelly and his wife will finally be able to go back to the United States.
