Green energy to boost climate action plans

News Synopsis

In the recently announced Union Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a number of provisions to enhance the production of clean green energy in the country, that will eventually boost climate action plans to tackle the rising challenges caused by Global Warming and Climate Change. The measures proposed by the finance minister are the battery swapping policy to promote the use of electric vehicles, issuance of sovereign green bonds, and a policy to mandatorily mix 5% of biomass pellets in coal-powered powerplants. This will accelerate India's drive against climate change and take it a step closer towards a more sustainable future. Mrs. Sitharaman in her speech also encourage to implementation energy service company(ESCO) model in large commercial buildings and to promote energy efficiency measures. ESCO provides services in the field of design and execution after energy audits of energy-efficient projects.
