News Synopsis

Heavy rainfall has crippled the state of Uttarakhand for the past week. The rainfall caused a lot of damage to various parts of the state and many people have succumbed to it. The total death toll seems to be around 40, while some people have also been reported missing. Apart from the loss of lives, many people have lost their homes and livelihood due to the heavy rain. The government announced a relief aid for people whose lives were gravely affected by the rain.

The aid will give families 4 lakh rupees who have lost a loved one due to the rain. It also announced an aid of 1 lakh rupees whose homes were wrecked by the rain. This aid, although a good gesture from the government, is very little. These are small amounts by any measure. The government should increase the amount a little so that people who have suffered gravely during this disaster can start building their life from it. It should also give government jobs to people who have lost the sole breadwinner of their family. Such measures are important for people to rebuild their lives.

Whenever there is a relief aid announced by any government, the major problem is that of distribution. People often get tired from all the formalities and many times government officials harass people and demand a bribe of sorts. All these break them further and many even hesitate to go through all the trouble just to get a meager amount. Therefore the Uttarakhand government make sure proper measures are taken in this case so that nothing of this sort happens.
