Government of India to Push Electronics Manufacturing to $300 Billion by 2026

News Synopsis

The information technology minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and minister of state for electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrashekhar released a vision document that lays out the roadmap for electronics manufacturing in India for the next four years. The document estimates that electronics manufacturing in India to be $300 million by 2026. 

The report was drafted by the top industry body for electronics firms in the country, India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA).

According to the document released by the ICEA, the electronics industry of India stands between $67 billion to $74 billion, and to achieve the set target it needs to quadruple in the next four years. 

It also asked the government to encourage manufacturing products that have “high potential” other than mobile phones and IT hardware, which are covered by existing production-linked incentive schemes, which include wearables, LED lighting, and electronics components in electric vehicles.
