News Synopsis

Google will have to pay a penalty for the discrimination against women. Google was accused of gender discrimination against 15500 female employees, after which the company has been fined $118 (about 1 thousand crore rupees) after the claims were proved right. The court has asked the Google company to have an Independent Label Economist, who will conduct a study of the company's hiring practices and pay equity.

According to a Bloomberg report, three women filed a case against Google in 2017. They alleged that they were being paid less than men. The difference between the salary of men and their salary was up to $17,000 (Rs 13.3 lakh). Notably, it was not the first such case against Google. The company had to settle a settlement of $2.5 million (about Rs 2 crore) last year on the complaint of an underpaid female engineer.

The judge hearing the matter said that the settlement between Google and the female employee would be approved by the judge on June 21. After five years of litigation, both parties have agreed to a settlement. Google has said in a statement that the company is fully committed to paying salaries to its employees, hiring, and leveling.
