News Synopsis

Google is planning to block the ad targeting on the basis of the age, gender, or interests of people under the age of 18. The company has taken the decision due to the scrutiny over targeted advertisements being pushed on its platform.

The tech giant will focus on strengthening protections for vulnerable groups and delivering new ways to let the users have more control over their ad experience. Google has also released a statement saying that the company has made progress on delivering safer experience safeguards in order to prevent age-sensitive ad categories from being shown to teens.

Google has already started rolling out innovative features. The “About this ad” menu will help the user to learn about the advertisement and why it is shown to them. The users can also report an ad if they believe that it violates any of the policies. The latest update will also allow the users to mute ads or advertisers they are not interested in.

The company is continuously engaged in expanding the sensitive ad categories and providing users with the right experience according to them. YouTube has already allowed its users to turn off sensitive ads related to alcohol and gambling.
