News Synopsis

OpenAI has added a new AI Shopping Research feature to ChatGPT, designed to help users instantly discover the right products with visual filtering and personalized suggestions. With this launch, OpenAI takes direct competition to Google Gemini’s AI shopping tool.

OpenAI has introduced Shopping Research feature

OpenAI has introduced a new Shopping Research feature inside ChatGPT, which helps users find the most suitable products based on their needs. The tool offers a visual interface where users can filter items by selecting preferences through clickable options.

Once done, ChatGPT generates a custom product list containing images, basic information, and even e-commerce purchase links. This feature can guide users in both online and offline shopping while also saving time. Notably, Google Gemini recently launched a similar AI shopping tool, setting the stage for direct competition between the two.

OpenAI Shopping Research: A New AI Shopping Experience in ChatGPT

According to OpenAI’s official blog, the Shopping Research feature is available on mobile, desktop, and web. It has been rolled out for logged-in users across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans.

The feature is nearly unlimited to use, especially keeping the holiday shopping season in mind. It aims to help users make faster and more informed shopping decisions, particularly in detail-heavy categories like electronics, beauty, kitchen, and sports.

How the Feature Works

To activate Shopping Research, users can click the + icon below the ChatGPT prompt box. The new tool is available in that menu. Alternatively, if a user asks a shopping-related question, the tool automatically activates.

A large interface opens up, allowing users to click and select preferences. Based on this visual data input, ChatGPT generates a customized list of suitable products.

Create Your Own Product List with 'Interested' or 'Not Interested'

As per Gadgets 360 testing, users begin with a basic query, after which ChatGPT asks follow-up questions. Based on the responses, it generates an initial list of suggested products. Users can mark each item as Interested or Not Interested.

When a product is marked Not Interested, it is removed from the list and ChatGPT suggests better alternatives. Eventually, users receive a visual list containing product images, short details, and direct e-commerce links.

Purchases Not Allowed Inside ChatGPT – Safety Rules Strict

One important point: the Shopping Research feature does not allow direct purchases within ChatGPT. Users can discover products and click external links to buy them, but ChatGPT will not handle payment or checkout.

OpenAI says the tool follows strict safety policies similar to YouTube Community Guidelines. Conversations violating safety rules may be reviewed, ensuring a secure AI-powered shopping experience for users.
