When users click on a specific sender, they will see a complete history of emails received from that address. If they choose to unsubscribe, Gmail will automatically send an unsubscribe request to the sender, sparing users from having to scroll to the bottom of emails or visit external websites.

Chris Doan, Gmail’s Director of Product, explained the need for this feature in a recent blog post. He noted that users are frequently overwhelmed by subscription emails that are no longer useful. These include:

  • Daily deals that function as spam

  • Old newsletters from blogs that users no longer follow

  • Retail promotions from brands users haven’t shopped with in years

According to Doan, these types of emails not only clutter inboxes, but also bury more important messages. The new “Manage subscriptions” tool is Google’s response to the rising frustration over inbox noise.

The “Manage subscriptions” tool expands on Gmail’s existing one-click unsubscribe button, which was introduced in 2024. That feature allowed users to instantly unsubscribe from newsletters and promotional content directly from the message header.

With this new addition, Gmail is now offering a comprehensive dashboard for managing all subscriptions, improving user control and visibility. Users no longer need to track down individual unsubscribe links hidden in small fonts at the bottom of emails.

How to Use the New Gmail Subscription Tool

Once the feature is live in your region and account type, it will be accessible directly from the Gmail inbox interface. Here’s how to use it:

  1. Open Gmail on the web, Android, or iOS (depending on rollout date).

  2. Click the navigation bar (☰) in the top-left corner of the screen.
