News Synopsis

Glorang, an ed-tech startup that offers online after-school classes and activities for students aged 3 to 18 based in Seoul, raised $10 million on Series A funding led by South Korean investment partners and Murex partners with Japan's Paksha Capital.

Glorang CEO and Founder Taeil Hwang said that the new funding bringing in $18 million values Glorang at around $40 million.

Glorang was founded in 2017 by Hwang who founded the company on an AI-powered platform that helps students coordinate with their study abroad programs. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Glorang moved to its core business, an online-class platform, and launched Gguge in 2020, Hwang said. According to the company, Gguge has more than 100,000 South Korean users.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced students in many parts of the world to become online learners. The education and engineering industry is experiencing a sudden surge and demand around the world due to the pandemic. The Asia Pacific region is one of the fastest-growing regions in the adoption of educational technology, increasing from $17.6 billion in 2019 to $64.5 billion.

Gguge offers a selection of over 5,000 online courses via Zoom. Teachers help students engage in active learning methods, such as reading newspapers, solving puzzles, and incorporating Minecraft and Pokemon games into the classroom.
