News Synopsis

Germany’s Cyber Authority, Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), has requested users to change their antivirus from Russian headquartered Kaspersky to some alternative antivirus. German cyber authority asked the users to switch from the platform amid rising tensions as the Russia-Ukraine war continues to boil over in other aspects of people’s lives. Kaspersky is one of the most popular antivirus companies that has been offering its services around the globe. The German authority in its statement said: “The warlike actions of Russia as well as the threats made against the EU, NATO, and the Federal Republic of Germany harbour a considerable risk of a successful IT attack, which could have far-reaching consequences. It cannot currently be ruled out that the company will be forced against its will to attack systems or pass on confidential data.” Kaspersky in retaliation of the advisory against itself has hit back at the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). They alleged that it is just a mere political stunt by the German Authority. It said: “We believe this decision is not based on a technical assessment of Kaspersky products – that we continuously advocated for with the BSI and across Europe – but instead is being made on political grounds.”
